An idea that flourished into an initiative in 2006, the New Mexico Historic Women Marker Program celebrates the courageous women who have helped shape our multicultural history in pursuits as diverse as the arts, business, education, government, healthcare, soldiering, and science. History Makers is your opportunity to share the story of a woman you know personally today who has made a significant difference in your community, your life, or the lives of others.
To nominate someone, please be prepared to provide as much information as possible about the nominee, including:
- How she has contributed to the greater good, community, or you personally
- A specific moment when her actions or words exemplified courageous leadership that made a lasting positive impact on the people around her
- The aspect of her journey that you feel needs to be shared and celebrated with the community as a whole
- The values or principles of hers that have influenced your own life and actions
Your insights will help us celebrate these extraordinary women and ensure their legacies inspire future generations. By taking a moment to reflect and respond to the questions below, you can help us recognize and honor her contributions to our community, past, present, and future. Additionally, eight women chosen from this initiative will be featured in New Mexico Magazine's March 2025 issue, showcasing their stories and the profound impact they have had on our state.
