Please provide additional suggestions to prevent and reduce gun violence and violent crime in your community.

  • Answered: 748
  • Skipped: 1470
  • Provide more resources and locations for prevention programs for youth
  • Educate our community. Create space for our youth to express themselves. Discipline at home, more parental involvement.
  • Classes on gun licensing
  • A prevention place for youth to go besides the streets or gangs
  • Hire ? and credible messengers
  • I believe if we provide more opportunities for youth to be mentored through credible messengers and working along side people in the community who are actually in the streets
  • 1. Make it harder to get access to purchase guns. 2. Increase cost to become/remain legal gun owners. 3. Increase penalties for illegal gun ownership/possession 4. Reward for anonymous tips on juvenile gun possession 5. Increase frequency on the shoes or gift card for guns program no questions asked. Also, take it to the heavy crime/gang areas. 6. Crack down on youth gangs. Heavy penalties for involvement. Increase mentorship.
  • The issue is in the hearts & soles of evil people. Until those who commit crimes/violence decide to behave it will always be a matter of have police to jail them. If the criminals are free and have no appreciation for life or others they will continue to hurt others. Education & employment is good, but having parents who hold these values to raise their children to be civilized is the only way to address it long term. Without values & morals they will prey on the weak. As long as they remained addicted to substances they will continue to rob & steal to support their habit. In becoming a Godless amoral society we must reap the consequences. The same neighborhoods that breed crime 40 years ago continue to do so (SOBT, Pine Hills, Ivey Ln, numbered streets of Apopka). Until it ceases to be a political issue and becomes an issue of individual personal responsibility nothing will change. Blacks continue to kill one another at an exponentially higher rate than being killed/victimized by whites, strangers or the police.
  • BAN sales of fire arms . Use of other first services than the police (mental health specialist)
  • With juveniles: the parents should be accountable and held responsible
  • Do not require signatures and majority to investigate safety concerns from the community. One individuals concern should always be addressed, not wait until it worsens or it happens again.
  • I believe there should be more patrolling throughout the neighborhood while people are out working and during the nights, when these people that want to break into a vehicle can get captured.
  • please understand that law abiding gun owners are not the problem and will not tolerate gun laws that restrict their 2nd attendant rights.
  • Affordable mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and a Universal Basic Income would go a long way to reducing stress in the general population.
  • More police presence in area in general
  • Social programs are the responsibility of churches and charities. Law enforcement should stick to protection and enforcing the law. Anything made to do two things does neither well.
  • Good youth programs and positive classes on self respect, making the right decisions for a successful life.
  • We love the police and support them. However, they are understaffed and are reactive rather than proactive. We want to see police patrolling and preventing crime. They mostly only come when called. The officers should make more money and should be supported. They should be able to fight crime knowing that their leadership will have their backs and they won’t put their lives on the line to protect us for very low pay only to become the victim of some bogus civil rights lawsuit where the media tries to make these poor officers out to be calculated killers. It is disgraceful. The whole Demings duo social agenda is disgusting. It promotes racism and opens those healing wounds of racism rather than trying to bring people together of all races to heal. FYI there are only two genders. Look in the Bible. It is this crap that is diverting attention away from the real needs of our community.
  • establish some kind of judicial but non-lawyer conflict Resolution process/program. more aggressive use of red flag laws to remove guns from potentially over aggressive individuals.
  • Limit access to guns. That’s a no-brainer. Dont understand why it’s not the first option on the previous list. Also increase educational and economic resources to people in poverty.
  • Fortunately we are located on an area where gun crime is not prevalent. I beehive education and help for people that are less fortunate than normal should get education , financial, moral and learn the basic common mannerism of life and respect for all humanity and beings.
  • Provide a living wage, Enhance basic education (not just about guns), but give youth a path forward that doesn’t involve crime. We must fix the underlying issues. Fixing the symptoms doesn’t fix the problem.
  • Orange County Sheriff department should host activities in the communities. This we engaged the community and help build relationships!
  • Accountability for gun manufacturers. Gun shows are obsolete, no way to track gun sales. That one is like duh why hasnt this happend already.
  • Promote gun safety classes for children and pass more open concealed carry legislation. Allow more school staff to conceal carry to prevent school shooters.
  • Pass Constitutional carry in Florida. Police never have and never be able to protect us. They can only investigate the crimes. We the people have to protect ourselves. Also the question below about gender. There are only 2 .
  • I believe the pandemic has exacerbated the increase in violence. It’s scary not knowing where your/parents/family members next paycheck is going to come from and that results in an increase in stress and uncertainty for the future. That not withstanding, there needs to be education (school, church, after school programs, boys/girls clubs, community centers, etc.) on what respect is for yourself, other persons, places and things; being accountable for your actions and the cause and effect of those decisions. Provide opportunities for kids to explore their talents, find their passion to help cultivate a sense of hope for their future.
  • Help support lawmakers trying to legalize responsible open carry of firearms. An armed society is a polite society.
  • Create good paying jobs in the community. Limit the amount of liquor and bodega stores that can open in pine hill. I feel they are a haven for crime and drugs. Send people with drug addiction to rehab instead of jail just like they do the privilege ones.
  • Background checks, waiting period, no saje if Gina to felons
  • Zero tolerance on gun offenses
  • Make it easier for people to own guns in their own so that criminals are scared of police and citizen consequences when they commit violent crimes.
  • Ensure all streets are lit! Running early morning in the dark is scary.
  • Work with the legislature to allow the open carry of firearms anywhere in the state. Remove all gun free zones statewide.
  • Make guns more difficult to purchase.
  • Implement smart gun conversion
  • Encourage positive youth programs that aren't boring to young adults looking to fulfill their time. Encourage gun safety programs sponsored by NRA and other gun rights groups - they have the most knowledge of positive role models with firearms. Kids on the streets teaching kids on the streets is a crime waiting to happen.
  • INCREASE LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE
  • get rid of gun free zones
  • Parents need to know your kids friends & back and try to encourage them to do the right things and read more and compendium more.
  • Credible messengers to work with youth
  • Stop treating good citizens with firearms for personal protection like criminals
  • The nation needs better system to ensure proper purchasing of weapons. Eliminate loopholes for private sales and gun shows. Have national database, wait periods.
  • Orlando Police will NOT write tickets for illegally parked cars (on a public street) in my neighborhood. They will respond to the call (20m-1.5hrs later) LOOK at the illegally parked car, and drive away. If this happened in the downtown area, being parked the opposite direction, they would be ticketed/towed immediately. Orlando Police need to DO THEIR JOB that WE are paying them to do!
  • Raise the sale of guns to 21, background checks, close background and age consent loopholes at gun shows
  • loud music & parties in my neighborhood is out of control. They last late into the night & nothing is done. Speeders are also out of control, turning on & off the vehicles. Very loud & disturbing. Wakes people up. The noise scares pets & veterans. No respect for people trying to rest. Trash & litter is also out of control.
  • With this pandemic I know it’s been very hard for all public agencies to maintain order/ or enforce certain laws on the local levels. But I think it’s time to start. Bring back animal control, Code enforcement, because the Lawless just get Ruthless, & Law abiding Nonviolent just get run over and have to live with the ruthlessness. Because No action can be taken.
  • Shift funding from police to other social service agencies, schools, and low-income communities.
  • Encourage citizens to get the CCW and publicize that citizens are armed and will defend themselves
  • Make the public more aware of what is actually happening. I live in suburbia and unless I watch the local news (which I never do) I have no idea what is going on or how serious this problem is. I get 99% of my local news from Twitter and phone alerts from the Orlando Sentinel. I realize that I may miss out on important updates but the way we consume information has changed. If you want to get your message and alerts to the masses, up your social game.
