INTRODUCTION
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (a collaboration between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development) is partnering with UNEP FI to develop guidance to help the financial sector account for greenhouse gas emissions associated with lending and investments and track emissions reductions over time.
The GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard provides a framework for reporting value chain emissions, including emissions from investments (see pages 51 to 54 of the Scope 3 Standard for more on the GHG Protocol’s current methodology for investments). However, the guidance provided is high-level and GHG Protocol is exploring the need to develop supplementary guidance to enable the financial sector to report accurately, consistently and transparently on the full impacts from their investments.
GHG Protocol and UNEP FI request your participation in this questionnaire to assist us in establishing the need and content of new guidance.
This guidance is primarily for private sector financial institutions (e.g. commercial banks, investment banks, etc.); public financial institutions (e.g. multilateral development banks, export credit agencies); as well as investors such as pension funds and insurers.
QUESTIONNAIRE PROCESS
GHG Protocol/UNEP FI plans to publish a summary of the results of this survey, along with a list of organizations that participated. Individual comments will not be associated to individual names/organizations. If you prefer, we will ensure that your response to this survey is completely anonymous and confidential.
If you have any questions, please contact Cynthia Cummis at ccummis@wri.org, or contact UNEP FI at carbon.disclosure@unepfi.org.
We appreciate your participation.
