Opportunity Detroit - Tech, Workforce Intelligence Network, Intern in Michigan, and other partners are conducting a survey to assess interest in IT interns in Southeast Michigan. The information will be used to promote the availability of diverse, substantive IT internships and other opportunities in the region, supporting related student retention and attraction efforts.
The demand for IT occupations in SE MI climbed 22% in 2013, with over 40,000 job postings, yet less than 3% of the region’s workforce is currently employed in IT-related occupations. Internships are a strategy to help prepare people for future employment in a field. We are seeking information from employers on their participation in internships and related strategies.
Internships include co-ops and experiential learning opportunities. According to the National Association of College and Employers (NACE) an internship is:
