Question Title

The RED Writing 'Hood La Trobe November Writing Challenge is a two week academic writing initiative supported by the RED Unit. The Writing Challenge encourages participants to set writing goals, to make those goals public and to report on their progress and achievements. Participants will be supported through daily emails and regular blog posts about academic writing and writing strategies and processes. The aim is to make academic writing more pleasurable and productive by creating a supportive research and writing culture at La Trobe University.

The Challenge is inspired by Academic Writing Month (AcWriMo), a month-long writing challenge hosted by PhD2Publish. You can find out more information about it here: http://www.phd2published.com/2013/10/09/announcing-acwrimo-2013/

Question Title

What is your Writing Challenge goal?

You set your own goal. What you choose is up to you because what you decide on will depend on the nature and stage of your research. It might be finishing a writing project relegated to the backburner during the semester, or setting aside more time for writing to explore different ways of being an academic writer or developing a more effective, structured writing routine. Keep your Writing Challenge goal realistic, but stretch yourself in some way; you want to write more than you usually would.

Question Title

Are you happy to publicly share your Writing Challenge goal with the La Trobe community?

The La Trobe November Writing Challenge is underpinned by the power of accountability. Most of us need to feel a bit of pressure to turn a jumbled mass of thoughts into a tangible piece of structured, lucid academic prose. Declare your goals, be disciplined in pursuit of their achievement, report your progress on the blog and be supported and encouraged by the La Trobe academic community.

What is your plan of action?

Successful participation in the Writing Challenge will require a bit of savvy strategizing. Having a plan will make your goal more achievable and should help to ward off the sense of being overwhelmed. What preparation needs to be done before you put pen to paper or fingertips to keys? What will your schedule be? What distractions will you need to be wary of? How will you measure your progress?
Your plan might be about writing a certain number of words per day, or you might want to specify how much time you will dedicate to writing - it depends on your goal.
