U.S. History Teacher Cohort
The Minnesota Historical Society is piloting a cohort program for teachers of U.S. History. Participants in the program will attend three workshops throughout the year with their cohort group, communicate online throughout the year, and build a community of peers from other Minnesota schools.
The theme for 2014-2015 is "American Pop Culture: A Window to U.S. History." The three workshops will focus on different elements of pop culture and demonstrate ways to teach U.S. history using pop culture.
Fall workshop: Baseball as America (sports)
Spring webinar: Teaching with Art
Summer workshop: Two-day experience focusing on various elements, such as music, film, fashion, literature, etc.
This program is intended for U.S. History teachers in Minnesota at grade 7 or high school. Applications for this experience are due November 3, 2014. Successful applicants will be notified the following week. Cost of the program is $200, and includes all materials, food and parking during workshops, and an MNHS Individual Teacher Membership. Limited subsidies are available for sub fees and travel.
