Still working well on replacement but outdated regarding latest technology.

A Varian can be kept running 20 years without too much trouble. The 20 through 30 years can get difficult due to obsolescence and part availability.

Our oldest machine is now 19 years old and still treating a full list

Linac itself still ran like a champ but age for bearings and the fact that imaging component was missing required us to upgrade.

Machine was fitted with the old "Shunt Tee" and well cared for; still had the original klystron. The MLC (Mark 52) was problematic, but no serious downtime arose.

Our guidelines (NHS) are that it is best practice to update/ replace a Linac at Ten years

This unit was still functioning as designed and had no major downtime or major components replaced in its 16 years of service.

Slightly over normal planned life cycle of 8 to 10 years.
Now linked in with a 'managed equipment service' provider for the next 22 years so replacement after 11 years will automatically happen.
