As you think about what is important to you in a school year calendar, please use the dropdown menus in each row to indicate up to three priorities that you would like to see included in future school year calendars. Please note that the calendar that is created may not be able to accommodate all of the priority options listed in the dropdowns within a single year. For example, inclusion of a five-day Fall/Thanksgiving Break may require the first semester to end in January.

In order to continue having a five-day Fall/Thanksgiving break, there are several potential calendar implications including shortening Winter Break, starting the school year earlier than mid-August, extending the first semester after Winter Break, and extending the school year after Memorial Day that may need to be integrated into the calendar. Using a scale of 1 (most important) to 4 (least important) please indicate which of the following are most important to you?

NO year-round school to even be considered until AC situation is fixed.
10/17/2023
05:26 AM
We do not need or want a five day Thanksgiving break. Drop it back to three days. Use the two extra days gained back for instructional days so school can start two days later in August.
10/17/2023
05:01 AM
could we please get away from the check box system of the state requires certain hours? It seems the grades are posted before the last week of school and we are just sending kids to school to fulfill this arbitrary number. Focus on quality teaching time instead of focusing solely on hours needed. Going to school after Labor Day with a fall break, winter break, spring break and ending before Memorial Day is more than adequate to teach kids what they need to know to be successful. If this isn't enough time, then maybe we need to rethink our curriculum and what we are focusing our time on.

I would love to see a more year round calendar, but I know that is nuts sounding
10/17/2023
03:37 AM
Instead of an early release, once a month, elementary teachers have a work day. The work load for elementary teachers needs to be looked at in comparison to Middle and High School teachers.
10/17/2023
02:39 AM
I believe that there are other options that can be included in the calendar to help relieve the amount of work an elementary teacher is required to do over any other MS and HS teacher in the district. The elementary students have more seat time than required by the state and therefore could use those hours to be put into a work day for elementary teachers.
10/17/2023
02:39 AM
Consider starting the week before Labor Day and ending early to mid-July. In other words, not as dramatic a shift but hopefully still helping with the heat issues somewhat, or adding window AC or other options possibly less expensive than central air.
