Got a draft and need clear, concrete suggestions to take it to the next level? Have an experienced writer provide you with honest and supportive feedback on a sample of your work. With a short feedback report and a meeting with your assessor included, you’ll gain personalised and professional advice to get you moving in the right direction.

Writer’s Surgery sessions are best for writers with a full draft manuscript and are suitable for all genres and formats of prose writing, including picture books and other short format writing.

With a focus on feedback which you’ll be able to use to apply to your complete manuscript, a Writer’s Surgery can be a cost-effective first step before pursuing full-length assessments and edits.

Writing practice - project and genre-specific advice on overcoming writers-block, finding inspiration and developing a regular writing practice.

Writing craft – advice on your work’s plot, world-building, characterisation, dialogue and broader narrative elements.

Manuscript development – a review of your submitted work including advice on its structure, strengths and weakness, and any suggestions for improvement.

Industry advice – recommendations for developing your submission or publishing package, networking, opportunities and broader industry issues.

12pt Arial or Times New Roman font

For a 60 minute session: submit max. 20 pages of writing material
For a 120 minute session: submit max. 35 pages of writing material
