Bozeman continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in the US due to its scenery, outdoor access, job opportunities, and the university. The 2020 Bozeman Community Plan (AKA the Growth Policy) represents the adopted vision and goals for our city, including how we accommodate and allocate growth. We are required by the state to adopt regulations to implement that plan. The Unified Development Code (UDC) includes Bozeman’s zoning and land development standards and needs updates to comply with state law by a May 2026 deadline.

The UDC update began in 2022, was paused in fall of 2023 and has now re-started to allow additional community feedback. Phase 1 of engagement is aimed at learning which major topics are most important to Bozeman residents, and Phase 2 (spring of 2025) will narrow discussions to those focus areas. A draft of the proposed UDC is available at engage.bozeman.net/udc. The draft will be further updated in late spring following close of engagement, with Board & Commission discussion slated for summer, and adoption slated for fall 2025.
Thank you for your time and valuable input!
