Jodie Brown -

I will bring fairness and balance to the role. I will bring my knowledge and understanding of people. My ability to bring people together and lead the way of change. I will also bring my listening, speaking and organisation skills to the role. I am a black woman, born and raise in this country with Caribbean heritage, therefore I feel I am a great bridge of understanding. I am a fair person by nature, who strives to invoke change for the better, in all. With this attribute, I feel I have become quite influential and trustworthy within my community. I have a great passion for equality and diversity, especially within the workplace, as I believe that creates a more balanced and inclusive environment for everyone to fulfil their potential. Therefore, this will help to develop a more equitable and sustainable workforce.

I bring a proactive approach to bridging the gap between virtue signalling and action. With a pragmatic mindset and evidenced commitment to equity, I will ensure that the voices of BME colleagues are not just heard but actively amplified. I aim to translate small victories into widespread improvements that benefit our staff and, in turn, our patient care. As a Black woman with lived experience, I offer a unique perspective rooted in the realities of minority communities within the NHS. I recognise the significance of representation and am dedicated to ensuring that BME voices are respected and valued in all future organisational plans. My involvement in diverse race equity programs has enriched my journey, and I am eager to share and implement their insights throughout our organisation, promoting an environment of continual learning and growth in cultural competence. Drawing from my experience as a union representative, I possess transferable skills such as active listening, negotiation, and advocacy. These abilities are essential for effectively communicating and representing the interests of all employees, particularly those from minority backgrounds. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with other networks within our organisation to enhance collective learning. By pooling resources and addressing common challenges, we can create a more inclusive workplace environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
Sandra Golding -

With nearly two decades of dedicated service within the NHS, I have an understanding of SWB’s challenges, and opportunities. My personal journey and the discrimination I have faced creates my dedication to change this for others as the BME Chair/Vice Chair. Drawing from my extensive experience, I am aware of the systemic barriers and inequalities faced by BME staff within our healthcare system. This firsthand knowledge guides me towards creating a solution focused approach to address and dismantle these barriers. My background in an external secretarial role has equipped me with the ability to coordinate meetings, streamline communications, and establish a membership forum or list. I understand the importance of creating a space where BME voices are not only heard but actively valued and empowered. I am a vocal person within my department team meetings, therefore, I am able to articulate the concerns and aspirations of BME staff. I would like to build bridges of understanding, and champion for measures that uplift and celebrate diversity within our workplace.
