Project Information

The objective of this research project is to explore the ways in which K-Pop fans engage in and organize for social issues. Specifically, it will seek to (1) understand the ways in which fandom participants engage with one another, (2) analyze the key characteristic influences of K-pop groups upon their fandoms and (3) map the social justice interests of K-pop fandoms.

By gaining a better understanding of the relationship between fandoms and social initatives, this project will identify moments of possibility for social engagement. In doing so, it will answer a central question: how are K-pop fandoms leveraging their participation to imagine and enact transformative social justice? The research will consist of surveys, interviews and media analyses.

The investigator (Alyson Lewis) will be the only one who will have access to the survey data (including email address should you decide to provide one). All identifying data will be removed from data before it is shared. The final research results may be shared through a summary report, knowledge-sharing workshops, academic publications and conference presentations.

This survey is being conducted in accordance with St. Paul University's course-based research ethics requirements.
