VOLUNTEER VACCINE POLICY NOTICE

At Second Harvest, the health and safety of our communities, supporters and overall workplace are of paramount importance. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and as part of our continued efforts to maintain a safe workplace for our employees and partners, Second Harvest now requires that all employees and volunteers who attend the workplace or other onsite locations to be fully vaccinated with a COVID- 19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.

Volunteers who do not wish to be vaccinated, are medically ineligible to be vaccinated and/or have chosen not to be vaccinated due to religious beliefs can still volunteer with Second Harvest in a virtual capacity. Virtual volunteer opportunities are offered to all volunteers regardless of vaccine status and are subject to availability, based on organizational needs.

In addition to our Vaccination Policy provided during onboarding, volunteers must comply with all Second Harvest health and safety protocols while performing volunteer duties and representing our organization. Additional health and safety measures include:

Properly wear a mask/face covering
Practice physical distancing
Submit an electronic COVID-19 screening questionnaire prior to each volunteer shift
Participate in contact tracing by signing in/out when on Second Harvest property and at event locations when necessary
Do not volunteer if you have COVID-19 symptoms, been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 or travelled without observing a quarantine period, if required by the Government of Canada.

Instructions on how to confirm you vaccination status and our health and safety protocols will be provided to volunteers upon booking.

Areas Of Interest

Please read about our volunteer opportunities prior to selecting your areas of interest:

OFFICE/ADMINISTRATIVE
Could include reception, telephone work, mails, filing, project support, outbound call projects, data entry, research and other computer work. Weekdays, regular business hours only.

DRIVERS ASSISTANT
Accompany our drivers on a Second Harvest Truck helping to pick up food and make delivers across Toronto. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs. Start times: Weekdays 7:45am, Saturday 8:30am, Sunday 9:00am

FOOD SORTING
Sort and repack donated food to be prepared for delivery

VIRTUAL/REMOTE WORK FROM HOME
Volunteer virtually by assisting with administrative projects and calling campaigns. Must have access to a computer.

FOOD RESCUE
Assist with transporting surplus food from food donors to community organizations. Rescues can be transported by foot, bike or vehicle.

GROUP VOLUNTEERING
Organize a group of friends, colleagues or family members to volunteer for a food sort or at one of our Second Harvest events. Subject to availability, conditions may apply.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Represent Second Harvest at events around the GTA by working the information table or helping with other general tasks, including silent auctions, ticket sales and collecting donations.

EVENT SUPPORT
Help out on event day at one of our Second Harvest run events or at a community event.

TEAM LEADER
Team Leads are responsible for training volunteers on site, providing guidance throughout the shift and act as a liaison with Second Harvest staff.

COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR
Represent Second Harvest in the community through public speaking and outreach initiatives, including volunteer fairs, trade shows, community events and more.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES
Achieve your community service hours by volunteering on the truck, at our events or in our warehouse – must be minimum 16 years of age.

WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT
Help keep our warehouse clean by helping with sweeping, sorting organics and recycling.

Second Harvest’s mission is to grow an efficient food recovery network to fuel people and reduce the environmental impacts of avoidable food waste. Our vision is No Waste. No Hunger. Second Harvest relies heavily on our volunteers to assist in the day to day operations of our organization. Volunteers may be required to assist in activities including but not limited to office administration, data entry, operations, events, fundraising and driver’s assistance. Because we are a charitable organization, all volunteers are required to maintain strict confidentiality. This means that no person shall reveal any information regarding the details of financial documentation or information he/she may become privy to as a consequence of their volunteer activities at Second Harvest unless specifically authorized to do so. In addition, no person shall reveal the identification or source of food donations unless specifically authorized to do so.
