Introduction

The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative’s (iNEMI’s) project, Module with Separable Single-Mode Expanded-Beam Optical Interface for Edge-Coupled PIC Optics, assembled and demonstrated a pluggable single-mode expanded-beam connectorized module for photonic integrated circuits (PICs). This project was completed in 2022 and results were reported in a recent article in the IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology (January 2023). A link to the article and other project reports can be found on the project page.

Phase 2 of the project is in the planning phase and the project team, which includes optical connector and component suppliers, end users, and researchers, is looking for industry input to define performance and other requirements for optical connector interfaces. They also want to identify and understand the requirements of potential near-term applications. The following survey will help the team understand the breadth of applications being planned and the design considerations for key components and interconnect technologies. This information will inform the design and assembly of the next test system to make it more relevant and thus, more useful for the industry.

Survey participants have the option to identify themselves or remain anonymous. We respect the information you provide and it will only be used to define future iNEMI photonics activities. Access to individual responses will be limited to iNEMI staff and the project leaders. Any information shared in the survey report will not be attributed to specific companies or individuals.

All respondents who share their contact information at the end of the survey will be invited to a webinar summarizing the survey results.

The deadline for submitting the survey is March 31, 2023. Thank you in advance for taking time to contribute to this survey.
