What is the Church Care Orientation Training?
The training will include teaching from Drs Sells and Ripley, demonstrations of helping skills, and time for you to practice your skills with a partner. The training lasts 3 hours when done live
Module 1: Orientation
Module 2: Joining and Understanding: Hagar's story
Module 3: Focusing the Conversation
Module 4: Curiosity, not opinions
Module 5: Boundaries and Emergency Support
Module 6: Looping Content and Emotions
Module 7: Summarizing for transitions and closing meetings
Module 8: Four H's to move forward towards goals: Paul & Silas in Jail
The event will include interactive time for you, and other helpers in your church, to learn more about good helping relationship skills, and to practice with each other. Due to this, attendance for the entire training is important.
If there's going to be helping skills practice, do I need to come with a partner? Ideally yes. Ask the others at your church doing the ministry if anyone is attending the same day. We will do our best to find a partner for you from those who attend the same training but finding someone from your church ministry to be your partner is ideal.
IF YOU ARE DOING THE ZOOM TRAINING, We find that it's easier for you if you and your partner are both together in the same place for the training. That could be at one of your homes, or a library, or your church building. If you can't do that, we can create a breakout room for the two of you on Zoom to practice your skills. Go ahead and sign up now, but do your best to try and get someone from your church to be your partner in the training day.
