1. Welcome to Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley

As a Volunteer Leader for a Rebuilding Together project on Rebuilding Day, we ask that you attend an hour-long training event in order to learn more about our organization and the details regarding your leadership position.

We have changed up the positions a bit from last Rebuilding Day. Here are the 3 Volunteer Leadership Positions that each project needs:
HOUSE CAPTAIN

The House Captain visits their project’s homeowner to determine, from a list of needed repairs, what can be accomplished in one day. They then complete an on-line survey laying out all of the tasks, materials and skills needed. With much of what's needed supplied by Rebuilding Together, the House Captain will then shop for what's remaining (using a Rebuilding credit card) and organize the work day. On Rebuilding Day, the House Captain gets to see the culmination of their planning and preparation by overseeing a group of eager and willing volunteers and witnessing first-hand what a difference a day can make in the life of a homeowner in need.

VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR (previously known as the Project Coordinator)

The Volunteer Coordinator communicates with their project’s volunteers prior to Rebuilding Day, making sure they have all of the details pertaining to the workday. They are in charge of the check-in process on Rebuilding Day, welcoming volunteers, checking them in, distributing t-shirts and nametags, etc. They monitor the well-being of the volunteers throughout the day, making sure they take breaks, are being productive and stop for lunch! The Volunteer Coordinator works with the Rebuilding staff to organize lunch for the volunteers.

RESOURCE COORDINATOR (new position)

The Resource Coordinator works with the House Captain to oversee and implement resource efficiency improvements and modifications, to include, but not limited to installing CFLs, insulating water pipes, and adjusting the temperature on water heaters. The Resource Coordinator also works with the homeowner to educate them about these tasks. In addition, they are responsible for managing the onsite project resources (materials, tools, etc.) by distributing materials in the morning and monitoring clean-up as tasks are finished.
