Estimate the effectiveness of a given diversity training.

(This estimator is built to reflect an aggregation of  30+ years of data and research that identifies features of effective and ineffective diversity training.)

When you answer these questions, answer from the perspective of a trainee. In other words, put yourself in the position of a person who has taken the training you're assessing when you answer each question.

* Think of a specific diversity training experience you have participated in as a trainee or led as a trainer. What type of training was it?

* Did this training focus on particular dimensions of diversity (like race, gender, ethnicity, age, ability, etc.)?

* Would a trainee say this training was directly relevant to their day-to-day work?

* Did this training offer the trainee an opportunity to set specific, actionable and timely goals or make public, voluntary commitments in regards to how they would like to apply the training in their day-to-day work?

* Did this training offer the trainee an opportunity to share their perspective(s) with other trainees?

* During this training, did the trainee participate in problem-solving activities?

* Did this training provide the trainee with a framework for practicing critical thinking in regards to issues related to bias, inequity, and/or discrimination?

* Did this training focus on helping the trainee identify their personal, individual blindspots (biases) and encourage them to mitigate those biases?

* Did this training focus on helping the trainee identify blindspots (biases) in the organization's processes, policies, programs, products, etc.?

* Was this training mandatory or voluntary?

* Could the skills learned during the training be adequately applied - simply and practically - to the trainee's day-to-day work?
