For generations grandparents have provided support and care for their children and grandchildren.
There are many kinds of grandparents and an increasing number of step-grandparents. Some live locally and share in the day-to-day care of their grandchildren as grandparents have done in extended families down the centuries. Others live hundreds of miles away so can’t see their grandchildren as often as they might like.
