Introduction

Crossroads and the Department of Health and Social Care are pleased to be working in partnership for the 2024 carers survey.

Two years ago, we asked carers living in the Isle of Man to take part in a survey which was designed to help us understand what life was like for carers and the impact caring can have. The results of the survey were published in our report ‘The State of Caring in the Isle of Man’ which subsequently helped us produce the Carers Strategy.

The Carers Strategy, which was approved by Tynwald in June 2024, sets out an achievable vision to address the challenges and concerns raised by the survey. The strategy aims to support carers to maintain their own identity beyond their caring responsibilities so that they can lead a fulfilling life with opportunity and choice.

As part of our commitment to the strategy, we are asking carers to take part in this year’s survey to help us understand the challenges you currently face. We understand that your caring journey may change over time and we want to ensure our strategies, policies and services reflect the actual wants and needs of carers across the Isle of Man. Your contribution will also help us continue our work with the Department of Health and Social Care to ensure a joined up and collaborative approach to supporting all carers living on the island.

A carer is defined as someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member, friend, partner or neighbour whose health and well-being would suffer without their help. This could be due to illness, disability, frailty, a mental health issue or addiction or substance misuse problems.

Your experiences as a carer will allow us to truly understand what it means to be a carer on Island, and we appreciate everyone who takes the time to complete this survey.

If the survey raises any concerns or you have any questions, please contact Crossroads on 01624 673103.
