On August 12, 2019, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution reestablishing the Wilmington/New Hanover County Commission for Women. Wilmington City Council adopted a Resolution supporting the reestablishment of the New Hanover County Commission for Women on November 19, 2019.

The Commission is to act as an advocate for women and as a resource on information on the status of women in New Hanover County for the County Commissioners and City Council members. 

Eleven (11) members will serve three (3) year staggered terms:
Five (5) appointed by City Council
Five (5) appointed by New Hanover County Board of Commissioners
CEO or designee, from the Lower Cape Fear YWCA

We are collecting feedback from women within our community on issues of importance in our community. Additionally, we welcome public comments at the monthly meetings of the Commission for Women held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 4:00 P.M. There is currently an in person (NHC Government Center) and virtual opportunity to provide public comment.
