An Assessment of the Agricultural Industry of Barbados: The Poultry Sector
INTRODUCTION
The Fair Trading Commission is undertaking a study into the Agricultural Industry as part of its mandate to describe the nature and extent of competition within economic sectors in Barbados. The aim of this exercise is to gain a greater understanding of the Poultry Sector with a view to characterise the separate markets that exist along the supply chain; describe the activities within each market; highlight the key stakeholders at each level of the supply chain; identify the issues that are affecting both customers and stakeholders; and address these issues in accordance with the Fair Competition Act, CAP. 326C.
In this pursuit, the Commission has developed a questionnaire to collate the experiences of individuals regarding their interactions with suppliers to the poultry industry (e.g. feeds), as well as providers of poultry products (i.e. chicken/turkey meat, eggs) in Barbados. Ultimately, the research would enable the Commission to identify the activities that create competition concerns and/or that raise consumer protection issues.
