1. NIRSA expects speakers to help us create a safe-and-harassment-free learning environment. The Association is strongly committed to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion for all members, attendees, speakers, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers. NIRSA events are inclusive of diverse social identities including gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, and all other represented identities as well as the intersection of these identities.
View NIRSA’s Statement for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for more information. For guidance on creating an inclusive program,
visit NIRSA’s Presenter Resources.
2. Speakers are required to present the program that was agreed upon. NIRSA will be happy to work with presenters on slight modifications and refinement of your program if needed, but it is expected, and is very important to attendees, that the program description being communicated in your application represents the actual presentation that will be delivered.
3. Speakers agree that as a volunteer for NIRSA, they will not receive payment for presenting the program described.
4. Presenting at NIRSA Events is a benefit of membership, therefore all speakers are required to hold NIRSA membership. If a speaker of an accepted proposal does not hold membership at the time of acceptance, they must obtain a membership status before the date of the event.
Read about the exemption policy here.
5. Speaker is providing services under this Agreement solely as a volunteer and not as an agent, representative, employee, or in any other capacity. The Speaker is solely responsible for their own performance under this Agreement, and shall not make any representations or warranties, or purport to incur any obligations, on behalf of NIRSA. Speaker is not entitled to any workers compensation, insurance, or other employee related benefits from NIRSA.
6. NIRSA takes photographs and video recordings at events, where possible, for news and promotional purposes.
7. Speaker authorizes NIRSA to use presenters’ name, likeness, photograph, and biographical data in connection with the use and promotion of the program.
8. NIRSA prohibits selling from the podium at educational events. Educational events may not be used for the promotion or sale of a product or service. If you hold a proprietary interest in a product, instrument, device, service, or in any material discussed during your session, you must disclose this in your proposal and, if accepted, to the audience at the beginning of your presentation.
