Introduction
ILGA Asia is organizing a 3-weeks online advanced training on human rights advocacy and UN mechanisms for LGBTIQ+ activists in Asia from November 1-20, 2021. The training will prioritize LGBTIQ+ activists and community members coming from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and Japan. The objectives of the training are:
1. To create a platform for LGBTIQ+ human rights defenders to reinforce their knowledge, hone practical skills, and share best practices on UN mechanisms;
2. To appreciate the value of human rights principles and key UN mechanisms (treaty-bodies, UPR, special procedures) in supporting domestic advocacy;
3. To translate the knowledge of international human rights mechanisms into practice on the ground;
4. To integrate the use of UN mechanisms in advocacy for SOGIESC-rights in Asia.
The training is our continuous efforts to strengthen capacity of the LGBTIQ+ community in Asia on the use of UN mechanisms to promote human rights and domestic advocacy. We are looking for the following candidates to join our workshop, who:
