Introduction

When you pay your municipal property tax bill, the funds are distributed to the Town of Oromocto and the Capital Region Service Commission (CRSC) for delivering a distinct set of programs and services. The CRSC Board of Directors set the regional service commission rates that are necessary to cover the costs to deliver the following regional services: economic development, tourism promotion, community development, regional transportation, sport, recreation and cultural infrastructure, and establishment of a public safety committee. Not included in your property tax bill are user fees and charges. These are special fees collected from residents that consume a particular service. Examples include certain recreation fees and water/wastewater rates (the Town sets the water/wastewater rates that are necessary to cover the cost of the services and have their own special budget.) These revenues are used to offset special costs (partially or completely) to receive a direct or personal benefit.
