Brookline Department of Planning and Community Development |
Housing & Community Development Needs Survey
The purpose of this survey is to understand the community’s priorities of housing and community development needs. Responses will be used to prioritize available federal funding for these purposes. This information will also be incorporated into the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, the leading policy document that guides the future physical design of a community, including clarifying the relationships between physical development policies and social and economic goals. More information on the Comprehensive Plan is available by clicking here, including a kick-off event on October 9th at 7 pm.
There are two main federal funding sources that Brookline can allocate for housing and community development needs. The Town of Brookline is one of 13 communities in the West Metro HOME Consortium, which uses federal funding to develop affordable housing in the region. Additionally, the Town of Brookline administers federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to address critical community needs, such as affordable housing, public facilities, infrastructure, job creation, and public services that primarily serve low- and-moderate-income residents. As required by federal regulations, a Consolidated Plan is created every five years to act as a roadmap for how the Town of Brookline will prioritize the use of both of these funding sources. More information about these programs is available here.
