Moretonhampstead Affordable Food Club sign-up form |
Welcome
What is an affordable food club?
An affordable food club aims to support people who are struggling to afford food by providing surplus food for a £5 donation. At the same time it can offer other support such as signposting to other services, recipe sharing and cookery classes as well as an opportunity to have a chat with others over a cuppa.
Is it the same as a food bank?
No, it’s different to a food bank in that members have to pay a small amount each time they use the club and they also choose the food that they want as long as it fits in the bag that we provide (to ensure fairness).
Who will be able to use it?
Anyone who is struggling to afford food. You might be on a low income or on benefits, or suffering short-term financial hardship due to the loss of a job or change of circumstances. Members can be referred by local organisations or self-refer and will need to renew membership every three months.
Where does the food come from?
Most of the food will come from Fareshare Southwest, a charity which redistributes surplus food to charities and community organisations. We will pay for a weekly delivery and the contents will vary from week to week, but will include fresh food as well as ambient produce. We also hope to receive donations from local people and businesses.
When and where will it take place?
In the Parish Hall, once a week on Thursdays from 9:15-11:30 starting in August.
What if I’m working and can’t make it to the Parish Hall?
We can arrange for you to collect a bag of food later in the day from a pick-up point in central Moretonhampstead.
Who is running the club?
Knead to Connect obtained funding from Anchor Butter via Devon Community Foundation for a 12-month pilot of the club and will be supported in running the project by Wellmoor. In terms of the weekly sessions themselves, local resident Di Wills will be the co-ordinator assisted by volunteers.
