The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is embarking on a region-wide community planning project to study how the RDCK can better meet the needs of its residents. The project’s focus area covers the entire RDCK and the following partnering municipalities: Castlegar, Creston, Kaslo, Nakusp, Nelson, Salmo and Slocan.
The Central Kootenays is a dynamic region that is home to a range of communities, spanning from rural to municipal, each with its own community needs, resources and character. As the region adapts and responds to new environmental challenges, economic opportunities, demographic trends and other emerging issues, the needs of its residents are also evolving.
This project aims to integrate and build upon the region’s various municipal and electoral area planning initiatives to ensure a cohesive approach to regional planning while supporting and strengthening distinct community identities. It will do so by identifying areas to protect the region’s natural, rural, and agricultural characteristics and other areas where new housing, transportation, infrastructure and community services may be focused. It will also help determine what types of community services are suitable in a rural context and how they might differ from community services in a more municipal context.
How will the input you provide be used?
We are looking to better understand your values and priorities so we can better plan for the future of the region. This survey asks questions about what is most important for you to thrive in your community. Your answers will help us identify areas that should be protected for their natural, rural, and agricultural value, and other areas where greater housing choice, jobs, transportation and community services may be needed. Your answers will also help us determine the different needs that exist in the wide variety of communities that make up the RDCK.
We're looking to hear from you!
This survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes and will ask about your community’s needs and how to make the delivery and provision of infrastructure and services more efficient and effective across the region.
