When the Malachi was built in the 1930s, its purpose was to be a place where the people of Oberon could have good times together. It is our vision too. Now in 2020, we want to plan the way forward to rebuild the Malachi to be a place of creativity, crafting, conversation and community. ?The Malachi is on its way to become a unique venue for the community of Oberon and further afield.

The Malachi was built as a "picture palace" cinema by the Catholic Church. When TV arrived in our homes in the 1970s, going to the movies each week became a thing of the past. Forty years on, we are rediscovering the social aspect of movie watching with establishment of the local Film Society. Film Societies are popular and affordable entertainment with the members getting involved with the film choices and festivities.
