The Melissa Institute CEU Request
The World Economic Forum has ranked the spread of misinformation as one of the top risks facing the world today. The “fake news pandemic” and proliferation of misinformation in recent years has created significant challenges for individuals, communities, and societies. Fake news impacts our views about diverse topics such as healthcare and the environment and can also impact our behavior.
Whilst great strides are being made in the fight against online misinformation, much of the research has focused on adults and less is known about young people. This is an important gap as it has been suggested that digital media literacy should be a pillar of education. In this interactive session, I will discuss the current literature and interventions which can be used to support young people in developing the skills to spot fake news and make informed decisions.
Learning Objectives
