City of Vancouver Reusable Cup By-Law Webinar

You are invited to join a webinar with Andrea McKenzie, Project Engineer for Solid Waste Strategic Services for the City of Vancouver on Thursday, April 28 at 1:00 pm. Andrea and Vancouver City staff to discuss the upcoming by-law changes to reduce the 82 million single-use cups disposed per year in Vancouver.

The City’s $0.25 cup fee by-law started on Jan. 1, 2022 and aims to reduce waste from single-use cups by encouraging customers to choose reusable alternatives as much as possible. Starting July 1, 2022, businesses will be required to accept customers’ clean reusable cups. City staff are looking for feedback from businesses about how they are making reusable options available to customers, as well as hearing what scenarios may need to be exempt from the requirement to accept customers’ reusable cups. For example, alcoholic drinks.

Vancouver City staff are seeking feedback from ABLE BC members to help finalize the by-law amendments before they are enacted.
1.Do you host events, such as live music or theatre, where possible projectiles (such as travel mugs) are prohibited on the premises?
2.If yes, do you always perform bag checks and other security protocols to prevent these items from entering the premises at these events?
3.Do you currently use single-use beverage cups?
4.How often do you use single-use beverage cups?
5.If sometimes but not always, when and why?
6.If always or sometimes, are you taking steps to shift to reusable cups (to give customers an option to avoid the single-use cup fee)?
7.If yes, what is your approach?
8.Are there additional scenarios that may need to be exempted from the upcoming by-law requirement to accept reusable cups?
9.What concerns, if any, do you have about accepting customers' reusable cups?
10.Please share any other feedback or comments you might have on the draft by-law amendments
11.Which of the following best describes your business?
