2018 Altar Application for Day of the Dead Festival
2018 COMMUNITY ALTAR APPLICATION
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION.
Please submit the following application to be considered for an altar space for the 2018 Day of the Dead Festival at Olvera Street.
1) SET UP: Altars can begin going up on Friday, October 26 at 10:00am; and must be on full display for Saturday, October 27.
2) MATERIALS: Each person/group is responsible for the construction & cost of their own Altar.
a) Open flames are NOT allowed (candles with wicks removed are ok)
b) Tarps, tents or canopies are NOT allowed by order of the Fire Dept.
3) BREAKDOWN: Altars will remain on display through Friday, November 2. All items must be removed and and the space cleaned by 12:00pm on Saturday, November 3. Failure to do so will result in altar privileges to be refused for future events.
4) ALTAR SIZE: Altar space is limited to 10x10 area, unless otherwise designated by management.
5) LIABILITY: The Olvera Street Merchants Association Foundation (OSMAF) and El Pueblo Historical Monument are not responsible for loss or damage. The altars will be in a public space. Please bring copies of photos instead of originals, and valuables are to be displayed at your own risk.
6) IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Day of the Dead Festival is a family-friendly event and unacceptable material of a lewd or inappropriate nature will not be allowed. We reserve the right to take down inappropriate displays.
The applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. We also look at diversity in terms of altar themes. We will begin to notify applicants after October 15. If your application is approved, you will be notified by email.
