Curbside Waste Collection |
The City of Timmins is considering expanding our curbside waste collection services in 2025 to eligible rural households. This survey aims to gather feedback from residents who currently rely on rural landfill sites and recycling depots.
Rural landfills are nearing capacity and changes to waste management services are required to meet the needs of the community. Curbside collection services could increase accessibility to waste services and extend the limited lifespan of the rural landfill sites. If you use the German Twp., Evelyn Twp., or Thornloe Twp. landfill sites, we are requesting your input to help shape the implementation plan and ensure waste management services continue to meet the needs of the community.
We ask that only one representative from each household completes the survey.
Important definitions:
Common Collection Point is a designated location where residents in areas with limited truck access can place their waste and recycling for scheduled pick-up. These points are strategically positioned to serve multiple households within a reasonable distance, ensuring efficient collection while addressing logistical challenges such as narrow roads, private lanes, or seasonal access restrictions.
Landfill capacity is the total amount of waste a landfill can hold before it is full. Once it reaches this limit, the landfill can no longer accept more waste, requiring alternative solutions like expanding the site or developing a depot, both of which require significant funds and resources. Alternatively, offering curbside collection is a solution that provides convenience with limited increase in cost.
Transfer Site or Depot is a facility where waste or other diversion materials are accepted and then transferred to another location for processing or disposal.
