Welcome to the Town of Wakefield's Housing Survey

The Town of Wakefield—through the Town Council, Planning Board, Affordable Housing Trust, and Planning Department—is creating an updated Housing Production Plan. A Housing Production Plan is a “proactive strategy for planning and development of affordable housing” per the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC). Most municipalities bring on a consultant to create a community-specific plan.

This project will create a plan that identifies Wakefield's housing needs and the strategies it will use to make progress in facilitating the development of affordable housing. After the Housing Production Plan is certified by EOHLC, Wakefield could utilize it to assert more control over 40B projects, even if the state mandated 10 percent minimum number of units is not met. This allows the Town to confirm that future 40B projects reflect the needs of the Town while staying in compliance with the state.

About The Survey

This survey will ask you a series of questions so we can gain a better understanding of your perspective and community priorities. Your voice matters, and the community's input will be at the heart of this housing plan.

When communities encourage homes of many shapes and sizes, all residents are able to find the types of housing they would like at prices they can afford. We need your help to create a plan for housing solutions that contribute toward a healthy, equitable, and prosperous Wakefield.

Wakefield has hired JM Goldson LLC to work with a Town-appointed citizen advisory group to develop the HPP.

This survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. Those wishing to take the survey on the same computer are invited to do so. Your responses will be recorded separately.

Hard copies of this survey are available from the Town Planning Department. Please contact Samantha P. Elliott, Senior Planner, for more information (781-246-6391).

Wakefield provides reasonable accommodations and/or language assistance free of charge upon request. If you are a person with a disability and require information or materials in an alternate format, or if you require any other accommodation, please contact the Town’s Disability Coordinator William Renault, Town Engineer, at 781-246-6308. Every effort will be made to grant your request.

This survey is not part of the recent MBTA Communities/3A zoning changes recently discussed in Town—for more information, visit the Town's MBTA 40A Multi-Family Zoning Overlay District Project page.
