AMEC Environment Award 2023

About the Award

The AMEC Environment Award reflects the importance of managing environmental impacts of mineral mining and exploration projects.

It is made to a company that excels in their management of environmental impacts, or is developing innovative methods to achieve better long term environmental outcomes.

The criteria for the award are relevance to mineral exploration and mining projects, degree of innovation from current/past processes, and quantifiable potential benefit or significance to industry.

The award encompasses all aspects where environmental impact may be considered, including, but not limited to:

· land use

· water management

· community safety

· on-going environmental impacts

· mine closure

· mine rehabilitation

Award Eligibility

The award is intended to recognise leading best practice and innovation in environmental management throughout the life of the mine – from exploration through to closure.

It is presented to a company that goes above and beyond in their management of environmental aspects and impacts or is developing innovative methods to achieve better long-term environmental outcomes.

Nominations are open to mining and mineral exploration companies, companies that provide products and services to the industry, and research organisations.

Award nominations are limited to Australian companies and organisations, and Australian projects and products.

Judging Criteria

Nominations will be judged on:

· relevance to mineral exploration and mining projects

· degree of innovation from current/past processes

· potential benefit or significance to industry and the environment

Supporting documentation

Additional information should be provided as attachments to demonstrate the significance of the entry to the long term environmental outcomes or management practices in the mineral mining and exploration industry.

General Conditions of Entry

A separate entry form must be completed and submitted with each entry. There is no limit to the number of different entries a nominator may submit.

Entries must reach the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies, Level 2, 1 Havelock, West Perth OR PO Box 948, West Perth WA, 6872, or info@amec.org.au, by 5.00pm AWST Friday 22 September 2023.

AMEC may choose to shortlist nominations and request nominees to meet with the committee or any member of the committee to discuss the nomination.

AMEC has the discretion to give weight to innovations and leading practices which in AMEC’s view are of industry significance.

The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The winner will be announced at the AMEC Awards Dinner on Thursday 30 November 2023 at Optus Stadium, Burswood, Western Australia.
