Wyandotte Name Application
Each Applicant Must Fill Out A Separate Application!
Wyandotte Names are part of our cultural heritage. Name ideas are suggested/chosen by others for the applicant based on personal characteristics and/or stories. What makes you you? We want to know!
Once a suitable name is found, the bestowal by Chief usually happens at the blessing of the Pow Wow grounds in September, our traditional naming time.
An appropriate name can take months or years to be found because this is a time-intensive process, starting with this application. Priority is given to adult citizens who are actively involved with our Wyandotte Nation. (There are so many ways to stand up for our Tribe no matter where you live! We're glad to help you connect.)
A complete application includes:
1. This form completely filled out (with depth & meaningful details)
2. Three to four personal reference forms received (details in application below)
3. Attendance at a Wyandotte Basics class (held online twice a year, usually first week of December & May)
Once all three parts are complete, you will be added to the queue. Those in the queue by May 31st are eligible for the Naming Ceremony the following September.
Application Cycle: While you can start/submit an application at any time of the year, new applications are reviewed October – May. Summer is reserved for working on finding names for those who have completed the entire application procedure and are in the queue by May 31st. Applications received during summer are processed beginning in the fall.
Note: This is an intense time-consuming process so a complete application by the deadline does not guarantee a name will be bestowed that same year. We will keep applicants informed.
Please answer ALL the following questions thoughtfully and to the best of your ability. Tižamęh.
