Questionnaire for indigenous peoples
In September 2014 the United Nations organized a High-level session of the General Assembly known as the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples. The World Conference resulted in an action oriented outcome document that contains a number of commitments by Member States. The outcome document also requests that the Secretary-General develop a System Wide Action Plan to ensure a coherent approach to achieve the ends of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The outcome document also requests that the Secretary-General prepare a report on the following:
a) Update on the development of a System Wide Action Plan to ensure a coherent approach to achieving the ends of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
b) Recommendations on how to use, modify and improve existing United Nations mechanisms to achieve the ends of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;
c) Specific proposals to enable the participation of indigenous peoples’ representatives and institutions at the United Nations.

The outcome document also requests these be prepared in consultation with indigenous peoples as well as member states and UN agencies.
