Bill Hawk

Hello!
My name is Bill Hawk and I am from Jim Thorpe, PA. I've loved tie dyes my whole life but never actually made my own until about 8 months ago. What started as a hobbie quickly turned into an obsession. Although I am a newcomer to the art I try to learn as much as I can to expand my knowledge and techniques, always trying to push the bar a little higher.

I am entering a piece of furniture. It is a beautiful, comfy, tie dye chair (one out of a set of two).  When I first had the idea I'm not going to lie I didn't know if I was capable of pulling it off. After a couple dye schemes, a few botched cut patterns of fabric, a couple sewing needles and several stressful days, this is the best I could come up with. I hope you love it as much as I do.

I stitched this and dyed it with thickened dyes. It took approx 4-5 hours to complete, not including washout. This design was originally a custom request from a friend. I did theirs in purple and white as requested, but saw a lot of room potential in this design. This is the second one I've made and I made it in colors I thought would pop and wow.

Cranky Girl Tie Dye

Hello, everyone! Cranky Girl here!
I first started tie dye back in 2015. After graduating High School I was wandering life wondering what I was going to do with it. Everyone seemed to already have their dreams and goals down pat and were working toward them while I was "falling" behind. I was praying everyday that God would show me what I should do. What do I even like? The stress was building and I felt like I was going to crumble under the pressure at any minute. My birthday had rolled around and one of my friends decided that for my birthday she wanted to tie dye with me. I hadn't ever tie dyed before so I thought might as well..I LOVED it! I spent hours and hours of researching different designs, color combinations, you name it. Afterwards, we had some pretty cool shirts. Then it hit me. God had answered me. I had always been very fond of colors and as a girl I'm addicted to clothing. God had dropped my dream job in my lap and I was going to take it!
it wasn't all easy in the beginning but it was definitely worth it. Even now as I grow and get bigger, more and more struggles pop up. Would I change it? NOPE! I was meant to tie dye! My dream is to tie dye and my hope is that I can bring happiness and joy to others through my artwork one tie dyed item at a time.

Jolene Wellard

I have been tie dyeing since 2003, along with my wife Jolene. I love it! There is just something about being able to create art that people can wear around and show everyone instead of just having it hanging on the wall at your house! I am always trying to come up with new patterns to fold and new and creative ways to place dye after the folding has been completed. I tend to overthink before applying dye, so that the whole piece already has color in my mind, long before the dye touches the fabric! We have shared our love of tie dye with all 3 of our children. They have all been able to come and play in our tie dye studio with us. We travel all over to various music festivals and art shows selling our wares in the summer months. I feel blessed to be able to share what we do with so many people. It is a lot of fun to be able to do something you love...and get paid for it! Everyone should try tie dye at least once in their life!

Last May I wanted to decorate my bedroom with tapestries that made me feel relaxed. I settled on using tie dye and researched how to tie dye for about a month. Then I started creating based on how I view the universe and how my emotions are bottled inside me. This art form helps me pop the cork. Every piece I've created since is a direct extraction from my mind and soul. Hopefully, we all can connect on a spiritual level one day by lucidly expressing ourselves. Personally, I am trying to crack through the glass of the aquarium I was conditioned to be held captive in.

Matt Thrash

I'm an artist and have always wanted to try my hand at tie dye and was prompted recently by my daughter to make a decent dyed shirt for her upcoming band concert, so I started the journey into the deep art field of fabric dyeing. We typically sell them out of our tattoo studios in Rapid City, SD and out of the cargo doors of our VW bus at local craft fairs. We believe they transform the wearer and express ones inner energies visually for all to see.

Drew Hazouri
I taught myself to make tie dye while in college as a means for making a little extra money on the side, though 15 years later I still remain a mere hobbyist. With the exception of a handful of commissioned pieces, I create art for the sake of art, and most of my creations are donated to friends and admirers. I work almost exclusively in tapestries, ranging in size from small wall hangings to stage backdrops that span more then 200 feet across.

This piece is created on 100% rayon fabric using fiber reactive dyes and waxed sinew. The original color palette was blended at 2 intervals between each color to create the fading effect.

"Blooming Lotus"

I started my first Etsy shop in 2011, selling small homemade crafts. I soon introduced myself to tie dye and fell in love with the art right away. I sold my first made tapestry on Etsy for very cheap. It was then that I realized I could price my art reasonably and make sales from my passion. In March 2017 I opened up my own business with the name Vibes. I've spent long nights working on perfecting my art and balancing home life, day job, and Vibes. I hope to one day be able to upgrade from leaning over my bathtub to make tie dyes, to my own tie dye shop!

Hello! My name is Shadoe, or Shadey Grove as most people know me. I run a business, Dyes Under The Skyes, for over two years now. I have developed a unique technique where I combine stitching and tying to create bold images and have recently added the use of thickened bleach to create finer detail within my designs. This particular piece is the first I have made in this design. I used bleach for the sun rays, stars, and teeth. I hope you enjoy it and thank you for looking.

Hi, I am Sage Scabrini, I have been playing with dye for 16 years. Tie dye saved me from reckless behavior as a young teenager. Instead of getting into drugs & bad behavior. I was able to spend my weekends tieing shirts for Tie Dye Ron (Ron Davis), he became my adopted dad and we spent years getting to color peoples world. I eventually found my own style and have been grooving ever since.

I have been tie dyeing for 15 years or so now. I still get that Christmas morning excitement when I open up my dyes after batching. I love creating wearable and usable art and truly love to see the joy the colors bring into our customers lives. I love to travel through the summer with my family and go to the festivals that we have been going to for so long now to spread our colors as far as possible. I also love teaching others the art of tie dyeing and hope to always keep this art form alive and strong.

Landon Bennett

I have been dyeing for just over 3 years. Over the past years i've been inspired by many dyers. Hugo, Paul Kenny, Dan Demma, Nathan Riggle and Rob Norwood. Just to name a few.

This piece is a piece of muslin cotton dyed with fiber reactive dye. I made this one in November of last year. I tie most of my pieces with fishing line but I also use an assortment of other means of tieing such as sinew and bow string. I use a method of application similar to low water immersion dyeing where the dye is applied to the tied item with the introduction of soda ash after the dye is placed instead of before.

Steven Ludwig
Shine on Dyez: Custom Tie Dye Apparel

Tie dye has been a part of my life for many years. When I was younger I attended Nature Camp for a few summers. During that time aside from learning how to fish, learning how to make hemp jewelry, and canoeing we learned how to tie dye. It was interesting to me and over the years I fooled around with it making a couple shirts here and there until a little over 2 years ago I did a couple shirts on a whim out of your typical tulip dyes and was amazed at how well my spirals came out and thought to myself "how can we make this better? There has to be better dyes and designs out there". There definitely was, after watching a few YouTube videos on tie dyeing with Procion MX dyes and learning about ice dyeing I was hooked like a phish. i ordered myself a small bit of Dharma dyes and tried some new stuff out and started really digging this kind of art. A few days later after making my first sale I was tripping on acid and had an epiphany that tie dyeing would be the next big adventure in my life by starting my own company and taking it on the road to vend at music festivals where I can be my truest self and be around this beautiful jam scene and the phamoelt I found a home in. Now, two years later, Shine On Dyez has a steady stream of custom orders, wholesale requests, artist collaborations, and many campout festivals to vend. Tie Dye has changed my life in so many ways that I'm truely grateful for and I can't wait to see what lays furthur on down the road.

This piece is a cross between a double mandala and a radio wave with a few extra folds. When I finally got done tyeing it with sinew I chuckled. It looked like a Rhino's horn or birds beak, depending on how you looked at it. I decided to go with a bright color scheme using high amounts of contrast using only different shades of yellow, green, blue and red. Then I wrapped it in a cardboard mold and muck dyed it. The reveal was a pleasant surprise as I had never done this before and it was a super thick fold. This piece is now a part of my private stash as I am too in love with it to put it up for sale. Hope you enjoy the view ;)

Tie Dyed Twice

Hello there, names Mike, I've been tie dyeing for 2 1/2 years and have become obsessed. I had 2 aneurysms in May 2016 which required 6 months bedrest. So to pass the time I taught myself how to dye. With the help of Youtube and Facebook I picked it up rather quickly. 3 Months into it I gained a bunch of customers in the quilting industry. Which is why I focuesed on the larger pieces, since then it's been hit or miss on my sales. Learning how to vend is the hard part. But coming into my third season I've got a lot better understanding of how to get out there and make it work.

I really started getting into it a couple of years ago and as time went on I've discovered and developed some methods when dyeing that I really love. I recently started getting into the mandala design, which I absolutely fell in love with. It's probably my favorite design to do so I figured why not try it out on a tapestry and send it to the cup. At Winans Imaginative, we are proud to make bi-colored shoelaces. The Tyes (as we call them) are great for teaching kids to tie shoes. We have had great sucess in helping kids living with Autism learn to tie their shoes using our tyes. With one side being a color of your choosing and the other side being different, it's easier for kids to see how one loop works around the other. Further, we have found sports fans love the fact they can pick their team colors to support their favorite team. We primarily make bi-colored shoelaces however, we have started having requests for crib shoes. This is a pair of pink and purple crib shoes. We also make matching onesies for the crib shoes.
