Welcome to Logistics UK van survey to investigate the regulatory implications for the additional weight of alternatively fuelled propulsion equipment, mainly the weight of batteries, what was a 3.5t van, can now be up to a 4.25t van. The results are confidential and will be used to engage with government and provide information to Logistics UK members. The survey takes around 10 mins.
Context: The 2018 amendment to The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations permits category B licence holders to drive alternatively fuelled goods vehicles (3.5t–4.25t MAM) in Great Britain, with conditions: no trailers, completion of five hours of training, and operation within a 100km radius to avoid drivers’ hours and tachograph rules. "Alternatively fuelled" includes vehicles powered by electricity, hydrogen, natural gas (including biomethane), or liquefied petroleum gas. An HGV MOT test, conducted by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) at an Authorised Testing Facility (ATF), is also required, unlike ICE vans that are tested after three years by MOT garages.
