Aviation industry survey |
INTRODUCTION
Aviation is an essential service and industry for The Australian economy, linking business and communities across a vast continent. Despite this, workers at airports and in our skies across Australia have reported falling standards in job security, the dangerous erosion of work life balance and safety issues over the last two decades.
Aviation is prone to external shocks like pandemics, natural disasters and international conflict. Yet with no regulation, workers and customers are left to rely on privatised airports and airlines to make decisions over your pay and conditions. This will only accelerate with the introduction of new technologies throughout aviation. This has created an unsustainable boom or bust cycle with workers too often copping the brunt of the fight for profit and market share.
It is time for urgent reform.
It is time for the government to sit down with aviation workers and create a system that ensures airlines and airports lifts standards and safety to create a more sustainable aviation industry.
