Communication and Innovation Action Steps (7 Day Challenge)
Let's build and focus together by applying what we have learned about communication and innovation. Choose ONE action step below that you will implement over the next 7 days!
1.
Listen more, speak less
(Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply. We tend to spend more time thinking about our reply than actively listening to what others have to say. This makes us listen only partially and the result is us missing out on a lot of potentially valuable information.)
I WILL LISTEN MORE AND SPEAK LESS OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS
2.
Talk with people, not at people
(A conversation is based on interaction, it only works both ways. Give your opinion, share your ideas, but also listen to what others have to say. There's a thin line between being assertive and passionate verses rude and arrogant.)
I WILL TALK WITH PEOPLE AND NOT AT PEOPLE OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS
3.
Get a buddy
(Innovation rarely happens in a vacuum. Pick a colleague you feel comfortable with and make yourselves accountable to each other. Encourage each other to keep trying new things. Whether it’s trying a new place for lunch, pitching an idea in an unorthodox manner, sharing articles that inspire, or just doing some old-fashioned brainstorming. It’s better—and easier—together.)

4.
Do not interrupt
(Don’t interrupt the other person while they are talking. It conveys the message that you don’t care what they are saying and that you think what you have to say is more important than what they have to say.)
I WILL NOT INTERRUPT OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS
5.
Listen without judgement
(If you start reacting emotionally to what’s being said, then it can get in the way of listening to what is said next. Try to focus on listening. Equally, don’t assume that you know what’s going to be said next.)
