By adding my name below, I urge the Mayor and Oakland City Council to increase access to healthy, affordable, and convenient foods and beverages in Oakland stores by setting minimum nutrition standards at checkout.
We must consider that families and children of Oakland frequent stores where they are targeted with cheap, ready to eat products, high in fat, sugar, sodium, and calories that contribute to diseases and major health disparities including dental cavities, increased heart disease, and diabetes.
Our community can increase positive health outcomes and protect our youth by setting nutritional standards for items sold at checkout.
