VEU Analysis |
Please participate! This short, quick poll of 1 question seeks to view how fleet managers are using VEUs.
Calculating the cost per vehicle equivalent unit (VEU) is a method for evaluating and predicting budget levels. This technique establishes a relative measure that allows evaluating and comparing staffing needs between fleets of dissimilar composition.
The methodology is used to equate the level of effort required to maintain dissimilar types of vehicles to a passenger car, which is given a baseline VEU (sometimes called a “maintenance repair unit” or “MRU”) of 1.0.
However, the push back on VEU equivalency is intense. Everyone has exceptions for why their police car, ambulance, or snow plough cannot be compared to anyone else’s (for example: why one model of police car may require more or less in terms of maintenance).
