Examining VAR perceptions over time: A comparative study of football fans' satisfaction with VAR in early and late-adopting countries.

What is the purpose of this research?

The aim of this research is to examine whether there has been a change in the perceptions of football fans regarding Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR). The idea is to compare the level of fan identification associated with VAR satisfaction between:

- early-adopting countries (Germany 2017-18 season & United Kingdom 2019-20 season)

and

- late-adopting countries (Bulgaria 2021-22 season & Norway 2023-24 season).

The research will contribute to a deeper understanding of the impact of decision-aid technologies on fan experiences in football. The duration of this study will be approximately 6 months, from January 2024 to June 2024.

Why have you been invited to participate?

If you are actively supporting a football team in your country and are over 18 years of age, you have been invited to complete this survey. Your participation in this research study is entirely voluntary. If you decide to participate, your responses will remain confidential and anonymous. As this survey does not collect personally identifiable information, once you submit your responses, it will not be possible to withdraw your data. However, the anonymised data from this questionnaire may be used by affiliated researchers at LUNEX University to support future research studies.
