Hello, and thank you for your interest in sharing your ideas of how to highlight the history, culture, and significance of the Vanport community

Through the Expo Future project, Metro is asking community members and partners to identify ways to showcase and share the rich and complex history that is tied to the campus of the Portland Expo Center. This includes the history of Vanport, Japanese American, and Indigenous communities.

Metro is gathering input through this questionnaire and through virtual conversations, interviews, and in-person workshops with members of all three communities. These activities are part of Metro's ongoing work to understand how each community’s story can be shared at the Expo Center site.

This questionnaire includes six questions. You are welcome to answer any or all of them based on your experience and familiarity with Vanport. Your comments will be completely anonymous, unless you choose to enter your name at the end of the survey.

Your input will help Metro volunteers from all three communities develop recommendations of how to honor the history and cultural significance embodied in the Expo Center campus. All online input will be combined into a written document. This document will be reviewed by the Expo Future Historical Significance & Memorialization Committee, Metro leadership and staff, and the consultants working on the project.

If you have any questions about this questionnaire or the Expo Future project, please contact Stephanie Redman, Expo Future Project Manager, at 503-347-4587 or email Expo.Future@oregonmetro.gov.
