About the City’s recreation User Fee Policy

Recreation user fees are the various charges for participating in programs and associated with using the City's recreational facilities, such as community centres, sports fields, parks and courts. These fees help support program delivery and ensure that they continue to be made available for everyone to enjoy.

The Recreation Services User Fee Policy, which was initially established in 2006, ensures the City can provide quality recreational services while maintaining financial sustainability and accessibility for all residents. The policy, which was last updated in 2016, includes a wide range of fees for various services, such as program fees, membership fees and rental fees. The policy is reviewed and updated every five years to ensure fees remain fair and reflective of current economic conditions, while also considering the city's growth, changing demographics and increased demand for recreational services.

An update to the policy is underway

The City of Vaughan has hired Hemson Consulting to update the User Fee Policy. This study will review and evaluate the current policy and cost recovery model to determine what works well and identify areas for improvement. The study will also look at best practices, compare Vaughan’s fees with those in similar municipalities, and gather input from the community and other stakeholders with the goal of continuing to ensure fair and sustainable fee structures while meeting the community's needs.
