This award is the pinnacle award for Baseball Victoria umpires and honours a candidate who has rendered exceptional service to umpiring and recognises their dedication and strong philosophy in teamwork.
1. The Award may be made annually to an Umpire officiating within the VSBL/Charter season. Nominations must be signed and endorsed by a Member Club or Program.
2. Nominations on the official form with any supporting documentation must be submitted by Friday 29 March, 2024
3. The panel of judges shall be nominated by Baseball Victoria.
4. Assessment of the nominee will be made only on the information supplied with the Nomination Form.
5. The decision of the Selection Panel is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. NOMINATION SCREENING
At the closing for nominations, all nominations will be screened by Baseball Victoria staff to ensure they meet the guidelines above.
Any nomination not fulfilling the guidelines will be removed and therefore shall not be considered for selection.
NOTE: an award may not necessarily be granted each year. This may be because there are no nominations received, or the Selection Committee may deem that the nomination/s do not meet the criteria.
2. SELECTION PROCESS
The Selection Panel shall meet only once to assess the nominations to ensure they meet the selection criteria.
Each nomination will be judged objectively by the panel, taking into consideration the following criteria:
• strives for excellence when umpiring and sets the best possible example to other umpires, both on and off the diamond
• has a strong dedication to umpiring and improving their game each time they officiate, regardless of the level of the game or competition
• represents BV at a range of events e.g. ABL, National Championships
• actively pursues professional development
• has given their time and shared their knowledge and experience to help clubs with umpiring duties and the development of umpires at BV
• works with coaches, players and other umpires in a collaborative effort to improve knowledge of the rules and their application and
• displays passion and a commitment to umpiring
