1. Background

Dear Colleagues,

Personnel working in humanitarian organizations often experience stressful situations. If this stress is managed well, the personnel are able to carry out their functions efficiently and the humanitarian organizations are able to deliver on their mandate. If stress is not managed proactively and effectively, there can be many harmful consequences such as exhaustion, burnout, increase in various physical and mental health illnesses in the workforce, loss of motivation and productivity, and negative impact on humanitarian operations. Sometimes personnel may leave the organization due to unmanaged stress and hardship in the work environment. In the interest of retaining qualified staff and maintaining the integrity of UN services, we would like to better understand how best to meet the psychosocial needs of UN personnel.

The purpose of this assessment is to gather information regarding the causes and level of psychological distress expressed by UN personnel. This information will help us in designing appropriate interventions and providing needed services to prevent and manage psychosocial distress.

Please take a few minutes to complete this important anonymous survey. The questions assess some commonly reported psychosocial hazards in the work environment and the levels of risk for key psychosocial well-being outcomes such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and burnout. It should take about ten (10) minutes to complete the survey.

Please rest assured that any information you provide shall be kept fully confidential and only the statistical data will be used for the purpose of this programme.

Thank you in advance for taking part in this needs assessment.
