Introduction

Introduction
The purpose of the UNLV Campus Community Garden is to develop a sense of community at UNLV by providing faculty, staff and students a place to congregate, grow their own food, and learn about sustainability, nutrition, health and wellness. The garden will be used as a place for research, service learning projects and campus engagement. UNLV Student Engagement & Diversity and the Rebel Recycling Program collaboratively manage the program and the plots. Each of these units has a Co-Chair seat on the Campus Community Garden Committee. Since its inception these Co-Chair roles have been held by Tara Pike, UNLV Sustainability Coordinator and Nathan Hanke, Director for Service Learning & Involvement. Any future reference to the “Garden Manager” in this document is a reference to the Campus Community Garden Co-Chairs, until such time as a full time garden Manager/Coordinator position is needed and created.

Gardening in the UNLV Campus Community Garden is not like gardening in your own backyard, because how your group cares for its plot affects your neighbors’ plots. Therefore, the garden has policies on how and when certain things can be done. The following policies and guidelines outline the rules, terms and conditions for participation in the UNLV Campus Community Garden. Garden policies are reviewed and updated by the Campus Community Garden Committee as necessary and changes will be made available to all gardeners. The Garden Manager will provide information on gardening methods to all gardeners upon request

Eligible Groups
Minimum group size for a garden plot assignment is four persons. There are 41 plot in the garden, each of which is a raised bed approximately 3’x8’. The garden has two types of plot designations. Plots will be on a rotating (per calendar year) or static assignment (exceeding calendar year(s) based on group). Of these 41, no more than fifteen will be designated as static assignment for purpose of community building and academic research. The following groups are eligible to apply for a Garden plot:
