UFF Summer School Bargaining Survey

.To your knowledge does your department or unit have a policy or standard practice regarding offering full time instructional faculty (as opposed to GA’s, adjuncts, etc.) summer teaching, and if so, what is it?
.Have you ever wanted to teach during the summer, but either were told there was no or insufficient teaching opportunities available for full time instructional faculty, or did not even bother seeking a summer appointment because you believed none would be available for you?
.Are you aware that the Collective Bargaining Agreement provides that: “Employees [i.e., full time instructional faculty] shall be offered the first right to available supplemental summer instructional appointments, if practicable”?
.Do you feel that the quality of instruction and academic experience offered in summer sessions in your department is on par with that offered during the Spring and Fall semesters, in the same courses?
.If teaching appointments were available to you each summer at 12.5% of your 9-month salary, capped at $12,500 (1 three credit course), how often do you think you would seek such appointments?
.Do you think learning outcomes and educational experiences for students enrolled in summer session would be significantly enhanced if more full-time instructional faculty taught during summer session?
