Thank you for volunteering to take this survey about intimate partner violence (IPV) among students at UCT. For this survey, IPV refers to any behaviour in an intimate relationship that causes physical, psychological or sexual harm to those in the relationship. This includes physical violence, sexual, and emotional abuse and controlling behaviours.
This project is a collaboration between the Centre of Criminology and the Office for Inclusivity and Change.
All of the information you enter into the survey will be completely anonymous. We will not collect your name or any other identifying information from you. Your responses will not be linked to you in any way.
The benefit from participating in this study is that it will help us to learn about students' experiences of intimate partner violence on campus. The findings of this study will be used by the Centre of Criminology and the University to contribute to improving UCT's response to the problem. The data that you provide will also be used by the Centre of Criminology for academic articles and student dissertation research.
We are going to ask you about your understanding, views and experiences of intimate partner violence as a UCT student on campus. We are also going to ask you some questions about how you seek resolution for incidents of IPV, and about your awareness of existing UCT policies.
If you feel upset because of any of the questions, you can contact one of the support/counselling numbers below. You can also contact the study's PI, A/Prof Kelley Moult directly for a referral on 021 650 1285 or kelley.moult@uct.ac.za.

You can stop participating in the survey at any time by simply closing the questionnaire. You can skip questions you would prefer not to answer.
At the end of the survey, we will offer you the opportunity to click on a link to enter a lucky draw for one of 25 airtime vouchers to the value of R100. If you choose to do so, you will be redirected to a separate survey so that your answers to the original questions can't be linked with your email address. You can also skip this step altogether.
